Become a member of Wakarimu Sacco

Membership is open to employees, business owners, farmers, youth and registered groups across our thirteen operating zones.

Eligibility

Who can join

If you earn — however you earn — you can save with Wakarimu.

  • Employees

    Salaried workers in the public and private sector, contributing by check-off or standing order.

  • Business Owners

    Traders, shopkeepers and entrepreneurs saving from business income.

  • Farmers

    Smallholder and commercial farmers across our operating zones.

  • Youth

    Young people starting out, including junior accounts opened on their behalf.

  • Groups

    Chamas, self-help groups, welfare groups and registered corporate bodies.

What to bring

Documents required

Bring these with you and your application can usually be completed in one visit.

  • A copy of your National ID or passport
  • One passport-size photograph
  • A completed Application for Membership form
  • A recent payslip, if you are in formal employment
  • Your employer's recommendation, where applicable
  • Business financial statements for the last three months, if self-employed
  • Two referees who are members in good standing
  • A completed Nominee Declaration Form

How to join

Six steps to membership

Apply in person at either office, or start by downloading the form and bringing it in completed.

  1. Complete the membership form

    Pick up a form at either office or download it from this site, then fill in your personal, employment or business details.

  2. Attach your documents

    A copy of your National ID or passport, a passport photograph, and your employer's recommendation where applicable.

  3. Get two referees

    Two existing members in good standing sign your form and confirm your zone and centre.

  4. Pay the joining fee and first deposit

    Pay the KES 1,000 registration fee and begin your monthly contributions.

  5. Nominate your beneficiaries

    Complete the Nominee Declaration Form so your deposits pass directly to the people you choose.

  6. Start saving

    Your membership number is issued on approval, and you begin building towards your first loan.

Three ways to hold membership

  • Ordinary

    The standard individual membership for adults in employment, business or farming.

  • Junior

    Accounts for children and young people, operated by a parent or guardian until they come of age.

  • Group / Corporate

    For chamas, self-help groups, welfare associations and registered institutions saving as one body.
